Residential Project - New Build

Adelphi Wharf (Phase One), Adelphi Street, Manchester

A mixed use development for our Client. The wonderful opportunity for this site was to create the primary riverside destination for Salford. Dramatic building forms and subtle detailing to the brick work detailing were central to the design, but above all it was the quality of the public realm and the relationship of the building to The Meadows' that will determine the 'Adelphi Wharfs' success as a destination. The proposed design focused on the public spaces; their connectivity, their quality of 'place', and the orientation towards 'The Meadows'. A public Gym is located within the scheme as well as a variety of 1 Bed, 2 Bed 3 Bed and townhouses were suitably designed for the location on the site and the orientation.

The scheme consisting of three fingers individual, which interlink on upper floors set around a communal landscaped space providing 31,500ft of space, with 206 apartments; a gym, and onsite parking for 87 vehicles. The development forms a catalyst for the regeneration of Salfords River quarter, connecting the city with previously isolated communities.

The architecture is bold yet calm, rational aesthetic utilising traditional brick work to mimic the mills of the cotton and silk weaving historically Salford was known for. A reactive cladding 'Chameleon' changes with the angle you view the architecture creating a reactive system to activate a long frontage, one that changes throughout the day.

This is a 40% parking scheme, due to the proximity to public transport, and there is generous cycle provision. Amenity space is provided in the form of communal rooftop terraces.

The scheme in principle is orientated towards 'The Meadows' which create two courtyards, one is entirely open to the public that links the scheme to the River Irwell the second courtyard is private for the residents to enjoy. Further green space / amenity space is located on upper floors when the massing setbacks and articulates itself in response to the site.
